Hungary has changed its mind about blocking the European Union's sanctions against russia because of the intervention of US President Donald Trump. This opinion was expressed by Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski.
According to him, Hungary's decision to overturn its veto was due to Trump's statement, which called Russian dictator Volodymyr putin an aggressor and threatened sanctions against russia if moscow does not want to hold peace talks.
Sikorski added that this was Trump's first unequivocal position on the issue, which changed Hungary's mind.
“I think President Trump helped here,” the Polish minister emphasized.
The publication reminded that last week, Trump said that the United States would impose high taxes, tariffs and sanctions against russia if an agreement to end the war in Ukraine is not reached in the near future.
In his turn, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk wrote afterwards:
“If Viktor Orban really blocks European sanctions at a crucial moment in the war, it will be absolutely clear that he is playing on Putin's team, not ours, in this great game for the security and future of Europe.”
