Zelenskyy imposes sanctions against russia's financial sector

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has approved the imposition of sanctions against russia's financial sector, according to Decree No. 24/2025, published on the website of the Presidential Office.
“I signed the documents on sanctions today (January 13 - ed.). A decree imposing sanctions against the financial sector of russia. 140 different entities,” Zelenskyy said in a new video address on January 13.
The president also emphasized that “Ukraine will continue to work with partners to coordinate this pressure.”
At the same time, the head of state said he had initiated a bill on criminal liability for attempts to circumvent sanctions, “and this is largely a continuation of international practice in relation to sanctions.”
“We all understand that the more pressure is put on the aggressor, the closer the peace. Sanctions are one of the most effective tools to put fair pressure on russia and all those who are associated with it or work for the war. This draft law will be submitted to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine,” he summarized.
