President Trump's administration has asked the State Department and Treasury Department to compile a list of sanctions that could be eased for U.S. officials to discuss with russian officials in the coming days as part of the administration's broader talks with moscow on improving diplomatic and economic relations.

US sanctions officials are currently preparing a proposal to lift sanctions on certain organizations and individuals, including some russian oligarchs.

It is not known which russian sanctions the Trump administration will consider lifting first. Donald Trump could issue an executive order that would allow his administration to begin the process of easing some russian sanctions, but he would also need to obtain congressional authorization to lift measures against certain organizations in russia.
