US removes sanctions against russian crypto service facilitating sanctions circumvention

According to the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control, crypto mixer Tornado cash has been removed from the Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) list.

This list includes individuals and entities that are blocked under various sanctions programs.

Cryptocurrency was founded by Russian Roman Semenov, who is wanted by the FBI for money laundering.

According to the FBI, Semenov and his associates, who control the Tornado Cash service, allegedly engaged in hundreds of millions of dollars in sanctions violating transactions by helping the Lazarus Group transfer criminal proceeds from a cryptocurrency wallet that was designated as blocked property by the Office of Foreign Assets Control.
