"It is possible to significantly tighten sanctions [against russia] - especially the latest sanctions [on oil production and export]. This opens up opportunities to do something. And if anyone understands leverage, it's President Donald Trump. You can see it based on what he's done recently, "said Keith Kellogg.

According to Kellogg, now the application of sanctions against russia is rated "Three" on a scale of one to 10 as to how painful can be economic pressure.

The US sanctions themselves, for example, in relation to the profitable energy sector of russia - nominally twice as high, but there is still an opportunity to strengthen them.

He added that the entire American administration is working to resolve the russian-Ukrainian war.

"We have a national security team talking about this - the president, the vice president, the national security adviser, the secretary of state and the head of the Treasury, the White House National Security Council, working together," Kellogg said.

At the same time, the special representative of the president of the United States noted that Ukraine will need to continue military pressure on russia on the eve of the talks.

He also criticized the strategy of former President Joe Biden, who promised to provide assistance to Ukraine "as long as necessary," without increasing pressure on other elements of the russian government.

"It's not a strategy, it's a bumper sticker," he said.

According to Kellogg, to exert pressure only by military means is not enough.

"You have to put economic pressure. You must exert diplomatic pressure, "he added.
