There is no unanimity of opinion among European leaders on the transfer of frozen russian funds to Ukraine,” Tusk said.
“Everyone understands that it would be best to transfer these funds to Ukraine's defense and reconstruction. However, there are fears of negative consequences for the euro and the banking system,” he said.
He added that Poland is convincing its partners of the need to transfer funds to Ukraine, but Warsaw's vote will not be decisive, as Poland is not a member of the eurozone. At the same time, the Polish prime minister assured that the interest from the frozen russian funds is working for Ukraine.
On the other hand, Tusk pointed out that the focus should now be on getting the sanctions on freezing russian assets in the EU extended for the next period in June. He expressed concern that Hungary would oppose the extension, a position that could also be influenced by Washington.
“We need to focus on extending the sanctions, because they are working,” Tusk emphasized.
