Trump's team considers the confiscation of $300 billion worth of frozen russian assets to be a lever for negotiations with russia to end the war against Ukraine.
It is noted that aides to current US President Joe Biden are trying to convince European partners to support the transfer of $300 billion to a new deposit account, which will be unlocked only under a peace agreement. However, EU member states are not ready for this and express fears of violating international law if banks completely confiscate Russian money.
Biden's team is reportedly “closely consulting” on this idea with President-elect Donald Trump's team, including Senator Marco Rubio, his Secretary of State, and Congressman Mike Volz, his National Security Advisor.
It is noted that the future Trump administration generally supports this strategy, believing that the confiscated money could give russia a new incentive to come to the negotiating table.
