During the summit, Keir Starmer will focus on the need to expand sanctions against key sources of funding for the russian military machine. Particular attention will be paid to the energy sector and companies that provide missile production in russia.
"I am here to join with our European partners to continue the pressure targeting energy revenues and companies that supply missile factories in order to destroy putin's military machine. Because in the end, together with our military support, this is what will bring peace closer.”
The Prime Minister will emphasize the effectiveness of the restrictions already in place against the "shadow fleet" and companies involved in the transportation of russian energy. Downing Street reminded that the UK has imposed sanctions on more than 100 vessels used to transport russian energy.
"The Prime Minister will call on Europe to continue to put pressure on putin, along with continued military support for Ukraine, to ensure it is in the strongest possible position this year," the statement said.
