The Government held the first meeting of the working group on the use of frozen assets of the russian federation in favor of Ukraine

"We continue to work to ensure that russia pays for the damage caused to Ukraine. Today, we held the first meeting of the Interagency Working Group on the use/retrieval of frozen/confiscated sovereign assets of russia in favor of Ukraine... We heard the preliminary developments of the group and the relevant ministries. The main topics are working with our international partners, establishing a dialogue on the confiscation of immobilized assets of the russian federation and the directions for which these funds can be used in Ukraine," Denys Shmyhal wrote.

 

Shmyhal informed that the group includes, in particular, Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna, Minister of Finance Sergiy Marchenko, NBU Governor Andriy Pyshnyi, Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Iryna Mudra, Head of the Foreign Intelligence Service Oleh Ivashchenko, and Head of the State Financial Monitoring Service Philip Pronin.

 

The Prime Minister also expressed his gratitude to the allies for freezing all the aggressor's assets on the territory of their countries.

 

“We are grateful to the G7 countries and the EU for the initiative that allows these assets to work for the benefit of Ukraine right now and strengthen our resilience during the war,” he said.

 

The Prime Minister reminded that according to the latest report of the World Bank, the losses inflicted by russia on Ukraine amount to $524 billion. Currently, about $300 billion worth of russian assets have been frozen in the West. Shmyhal emphasized that the government insists that all these assets should be confiscated and sent to Ukraine. According to him, the government is carrying out systematic work in this direction.

 

“Following the meeting, we outlined our further actions. We have set appropriate tasks. We are making every effort to make russia pay," the Prime Minister added.
